Police VC made their title ambitions clear as they beat Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in four sets (25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21) in their opening semifinal playoff match of the national volleyball league on Friday, March 14, at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium. It was a strong start from Fred Musoni’s Police VC who reached the semi-finals in last year's playoffs before being eliminated by Kepler VC. Police took the first set 25-17 to lead the game but, REG's coach, Jean Patrick Ndaki got his squad together as they looked to even the game. And his plan worked out as middle blocker Ronald Muvara secured the set point to win it 25-23. Police regained their rhythm in the third set and claimed it 25-23, and continued their momentum in the fourth set which they won 25-21 to secure the victory. It’s a defeat that didn’t go well with coach Ndaki who had prepared his team in all aspects. I don't understand how we missed this game, but considering the CAVB Zone V competition we just returned from, some of our players were fatigued. However, I hope to regroup for the next game. Earlier, in the women's category, Police WVC defeated newcomers Kepler 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16). It was an intense match, with Kepler's left hitter, Binta Fatoumata, working hard to lift her team's score, though it wasn't enough for them to secure victory. The playoffs continue this Saturday, March 15, with APR VC facing Kepler VC in the men's category, and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) meeting APR WVC in the women's category.
