Egypt and Mozambique have been awarded wildcards to take part in the FIBA Women's AfroBasket which will take place in Abidjan from July 25 to August 3. The development was announced by FIBA Africa on Monday, March 10. Egypt finished second in the Zone 5 qualifiers held in Cairo last month after losing 74-63 to eventual regional champions Uganda. Mozambique, on the other hand, lost 109-108 (aggregate) to Angola in a two-game series played in the Angolan capital, Luanda from February 2-3. ALSO READ: Côte d’Ivoire to host 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket Egypt and Mozambique have now joined the eight other teams which have so far secured their spots at this year's Women's AfroBasket. Some team qualified after winning their qualifying series and while others booked automatic qualifications after reaching the semi-finals of the 2023 AfroBasket edition. A total of 10 teams have so far qualified for the tournament while two more wildcards will, according to FIBA Africa, be confirmed in April to complete the 12-team field. The teams that have qualified so far are: Côte d'Ivoire (hosts), Nigeria (2023 champions), Senegal (2023 runners-up), Mali (2023 bronze medalists), Rwanda (2023 fourth-placed), Cameroon (Zone 4 qualifiers), Uganda (Zone 5 qualifiers), Angola (Zone 6 qualifiers), Egypt (wildcard) and Mozambique (wildcard).
