APR (women) secured their second consecutive Memorial Kayumba tournament trophies, while Gisagara VC swept East African University (EAUR) in tightly contested final matches that concluded at Groupe Scolaire Officiel De Butare (GSOB) on Sunday, March 9. Fresh from their CAVB Zone V Club Championship victory in Uganda, the APR women traveled directly to Huye to participate in the 15th edition of the tournament, which is organized annually to honour the late Father Emmanuel Kayumba who was a passionate advocate for volleyball. Gisagara VC put up a dominant performance against EAUR, winning the final in three straight sets 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 to lift the trophy. Despite Gisagara's victory in the Kayumba trophy. The women's final featured a thrilling tiebreaker as APR defended the trophy after beating Kepler in five-set thriller. The two sides had to be separated by a tiebreak after going level 2-2. 24-26, 25-8, 20-25, 25-13. Kepler started strong, winning the first set 26-24. However, APR responded emphatically, dominating the second set 25-8. Kepler regrouped to win the third set 25-20, but APR rallied in the fourth 25-13 to force the game into the tiebreak which they won 15-10 to claim their second trophy in less than a week, following their Zone V championship victory in Kampala.
