Rwanda National Police made about 30 arrests on Sunday, March 2, as part of a crackdown on illegal activities, such as robbery in Ruhango District. The 28 suspects allegedly snatched mobile phones from people in the streets and broke into houses, among other offences. They include women suspected of participating in these offenses by hiding the thieves and their stolen goods. ALSO READ: Eight held over illegal mining, violence During the crackdown to apprehend the robbery suspects, we arrested 10 people (including five men and five women) in Byimana Sector, five men in Mbuye Sector, and 13 men in Kinazi Sector, SP Emmanuel Habiyaremye, the spokesperson for the Southern Region Police Unit, told The New Times on Monday. He added that the suspects are currently being held at police stations in Byimana, Mbuye, and Kinazi sectors. Habiyaremye said the police are determined to eradicate robbery, which disrupts peace, freedom in the community.
