Rwanda has named Algerian tactician Adel Amrouche as their new head coach for an unspecified period. Amrouche, 56, replaces German gaffer Frank Torsten Spittler whose contract wasn't extended when it ended in December 2024. Amrouche is not new to the East African terrain. His most recent job in the region was the Tanzanian national team which he handled from March 4, 2023 to January 19, 2024. He has also previously coached Kenya and Burundi all within the CECAFA zone. ALSO READ: Is Spittler the right man to save Amavubi? In Africa at large, this is going to be Amrouche's seventh national team job, having also coached Botswana, Libya and Equatorial Guinea. At club level, Amrouche was at the helm of affairs at some of Africa's biggest football clubs including Daring Club Motema Pembe as well as MC Algiers. His immediate assignment with Rwanda will be against Nigeria on March 17 and Lesotho also on March 24 at Amahoro Stadium in a 2026 World Cup qualifying game. At Amavubi, he will be supported by Eric Nshimiyimana as first assistant and Dr. Carolin Braun as the second assistant. Meanwhile Andre Casa Mbungo has been named as head coach of Rwanda women’s teams (senior and youth categories). He will also be in charge of football development in the office of the National Technical Directorate. Rwanda is on top of Group C with 7 points and plus 2 goals.
