Rwandan cycling marked a new milestone with the successful launch of Paracycling for Athletes with Disabilities, a joint initiative by the Rwandan Cycling Federation (FERWACY), the Rwanda National Paralympic Committee and Ride Rwanda. The program launch coincided with Tour du Rwanda 2025. The event, held at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday, February 22, served as the official kickoff for the initiative where over 50 individuals with disabilities participated and learned how to ride handcycles and tandem bicycles. It also provided an opportunity for attendees to experience paracycling firsthand and learn more about the program. Jean Baptiste Murema, the president of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), emphasized the significance of integrating paracycling into cycling sports for athletes with disabilities. We are thrilled to welcome this new sport, he said. Today, athletes with disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy and showcase their talent in cycling, further establishing Rwanda as a prominent sports hub.
