AS Kigali have named legendary midfielder Haruna Niyonzima as their new skipper for the ongoing 2024/25 season. Niyonzima, 35, joined the Citizens on a six-month deal in January with an option for extension at the end of the season. AS Kigali haven't had a permanent skipper since the departure of Latif Bishira at the end of the 2023/24 season. The first round of the current season saw Jean Bosco Akayezu and Shabani Hussein all acting as captain of the team on an interim basis. He was also the captain of the Rwanda national team for several years. He netted for AS Kigali on his return against Bugesera on February 8.
