Kepler basketball head coach Mandy Juruni has been tasked to lead the Silverbacks of Uganda during the AfroBasket qualifiers scheduled for February 21-23 in Tripoli, Libya. Former NBA player Ish Wainright, who previously featured for Phoenix Suns is one of the players summoned on the team alongside a number of local stars like Tony Drileba, an experienced guard who formerly worked with Juruni during his time at City Oilers. Uganda faces tough competition in Group B, which includes Cape Verde, Nigeria, and hosts Libya. The team will start their campaign against Cape Verde on February 21, before taking on Nigeria the next day. The final match against Libya is scheduled for February 23. In the first window of the qualifiers played in 2024, Uganda only managed to secure one win. Juruni is an experienced coach who won many trophies including the Ugandan league championship with City Oilers (2012–2020; 2022 and 2023), in addition to coaching Uganda at the AfroBasket in 2015 and 2017.
