RY has been a regular figure on the festival DJ lineup since its inception in 2022 while Ominataga live band will be making its debut on one of Kigali’s biggest old school music event. The event, according to Basile Uwimana, one of the event's key organizers, is all about bringing back the golden era of romance but at the same time offering a variety of exciting activities designed to connect couples across generations. “This event is all about capturing the essence of love that transcends time. Whether you've been together for 40 years or just met, the power of music brings people together in ways that words alone can’t. We want everyone to experience the magic of love through songs that have stood the test of time,” Uwimana told The New Times. The night’s highlights, Uwimana further said, include live performances of the greatest romantic songs that once ruled the airwaves from smooth 70s ballads to the passionate sounds of the 90s, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that is sure to evoke fond memories of love’s early days. It’s a way for everyone to relive their own love stories while celebrating the universal theme of romance,” Uwimana added. In addition to the music, there will be an open mic segment where couples can take the stage to serenade each other or share a special dedication and fun couple games with exciting prizes, including a luxurious stay at Grazia Hotel, “We wanted to create a platform for couples to show their love in a meaningful and public way,” Basile explained, adding, “The open mic will be an intimate and heartfelt moment for those who want to express their feelings through song or words.” All the attendees are advised a dress code inspired by the iconic romantic styles of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. “The idea is to transport guests back in time, not only through music but also through fashion. It’s a celebration of love, but also of the styles that defined those romantic decades. We can’t wait to see how everyone embraces the theme!” Doors will be open at exactly 6pm and admission to the oldies music bash goes for Rwf100, 000 per couple. In the previous editions, the event featured MCs and DJs who lived the entertainment moments of the past four decades, with the lineup consisting of Rwanda’s finest DJs in the game like DJ Bisoso, Karim and RY who is the youngest among them.
