Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) head coach Frank Hakizimungu is confident new signing Barack Rugira can make an immediate impact at the club and help them enjoy an impressive second phase of the national volleyball league. Rugira joined KVC on a one-year deal, crossing from East African University (EAU) and, looking at his debut performance with the club recently, Hakizimungu backed the experienced outside hitter to help the club achieve its ambitions in the second phase of the league campaign. “We are preparing under humble conditions. In this second phase we decided to introduce Rugira, to help our team as a senior player,” Hakizimungu told Times Sport. KVC struggled to impress in the first phase which saw them finish at the bottom of the table standings without a single win from seven games but the coach hopes the team can turn results around with the arrival of Rugira. “We finished the first phase poorly, but we are determined to leverage that experience to improve. Our goal is to break into the top five and, if possible, the top four, which would give us a chance to compete for the league championship,” he stated confidently. KVC return to action on Friday, February 8, when they take on Gisagara VC at Petit Stade Indoor Gymnasium.
