President Paul Kagame has called on Rwandans to uphold the values of unity, integrity, and facing challenges with fearlessness. Happy Heroes Day! Today, we honor our national heroes who upheld the very values of unity, truth, and justice that define our country today, the Head of State said in an X post. ALSO READ: Kagame, First Lady honour Rwandan heroes Kagame highlighted in his message that it was everyone's responsibility to uphold heroic values to build the nation. “It is the responsibility of all of us, young and old, to face challenges with fearlessness and integrity, to stand up for what is right and to continue building a nation that defies all expectations,” he said. National Heroes Day is marked annually on February 1. It is a day on which Rwandans from all walks of life pay tribute to those who exemplified and defended the highest values of patriotism and sacrifice for the country and its citizens. This year’s celebration is the 31st edition. This year's celebration was marked under the theme, Ubumwe n'Ubutwari bw'Abanyarwanda, Inkingi z'Iterambere, which translates to Heroism and Unity for Rwanda's Development. ALSO READ: Rwanda's leading lights who exemplified heroism Earlier in the morning, the president and first lady Jeannette Kagame laid a wreath in commemoration of Rwandan heroes before observing a moment of silence at the National Heroes Mausoleum. They were accompanied by senior government officials, military and police leaders, diplomats, and family members of the honored heroes.
