Over 100 refugees who had fled to Rwanda voluntarily returned to DR Congo on Wednesday, January 29, according to Alain Mukuralinda, Rwanda's Deputy Government Spokesperson. “The refugees expressed their desire to return home and are crossing the border at Grande Barrière,”Mukuralinda stated. “We understand that some are coming from host families, while others are from the Rugerero transit camp.” He added, The refugees informed us that the situation in their home country has improved, and they feel safe returning. The shelling forced some residents, mainly those close to the border, to flee to the surrounding towns, including Rugerero and Mahoko villages, as well as Musanze, and Rutsiro districts. “Those who sought shelter at Kojote camp have also returned to their homes in Rubavu,” Mukuralinda explained, emphasising that businesses and shops in Rubavu reopened on Tuesday, January 27. The shelling involved the AFC/M23 armed group and the Congolese army (FARDC) and its allies where bombs and bullets struck Rwandan territory, according to RDF Spokesperson Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga.
