Two senior six students at Groupe Scolaire Mutongo, in Rusizi District, were arrested after allegedly attempting to poison fellow students’ food using rodenticide. On Friday, January 24, in a school located in Tara Cell, Mururu Sector, Rusizi District, two senior six students aged 20 and 19 were arrested after they allegedly attempted to poison fellow students. Speaking to The New Times, Western Province Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, confirmed the suspected students' arrest. “It is true, police have arrested two students from GS Mutongo who wanted to do bad to their fellow students by poisoning food with rodenticide,” he said. “But their evil plan was discovered before the food was eaten.” Karekezi said the suspects were handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) for investigation. Alphonsie Hawa Uwimana, the school's director, praised the timely intervention that prevented harm. She said the suspects had no history of disciplinary misconduct. “They are all females and were in senior six. Normally, they had no disciplinary issues,” Uwimana said. SP Karekezi said:“We are thankful for those who gave information on time; it helped in stopping the evil plan before it had a negative effect on anyone. “We appeal to everyone to participate in ensuring security and good behaviour. Particularly, educators and parents should help their children avoid bad activities like these.
