The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of DJ Theo, a celebrated figure who passed away on the morning of December 21 at Masaka Hospital after battling diabetes. DJ Theo’s influence extended far beyond the turntables—he mentored many deejays and supported numerous artists, some of whom have grown to become the country’s biggest stars. Artists across the industry have expressed their heartfelt condolences. Singer Mico The Best, a close friend of DJ Theo, described him as a beacon of resilience. “We stuck together through thick and thin for many years, and he always strived for everyone's accomplishments and growth. I loved him dearly. I wish him peaceful rest,” he shared. Promoter Patrick Rukundo, commonly known as Patycope, shared his grief: “The streets will remember you. We are grateful for your contribution to Rwanda’s music industry. We had a car accident last year, but now God loves you more than we do. We had planned to visit you today and were devastated to hear the news.” DJ Diddyman Dopedee also paid tribute: “Rest in peace, Big Brother DJ Theo. You blessed us with your expertise in mixing music and taught us the intricacies of how it works. Your good heart and generous spirit touched so many lives. You will be deeply missed.” Singer Da Rest described Theo as humble, saying: “I remember the first time I saw him; I was in a group called ‘Juda Muzik.’ We asked for his support, and he said, ‘Of course, I’m here to lift talents.’ He kept pushing us, advising us on how to do music while fostering friendships and discipline. He was someone who could silently guide and show you the way. He was simply a blessing.” Born on December 22, 1983, Theo was the only child in his family. A professional DJ, events and artist manager, and promoter, he worked with various artists and mentored numerous DJs. He was closely affiliated with Ibisumizi Records, led by artist Riderman. Theo’s funeral will take place this Thursday, February 23, at Mont Kigali Cemetery. His remarkable career and generosity leave a legacy that will continue to inspire the industry he helped build.
