The much-anticipated phase 2 of the 2024/25 Rwanda Volleyball League commenced in style at Petit Stade on January 17, with Police Volleyball Club putting up a commanding performance to defeat Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 26-24) in the men’s category. The match opened with high intensity as both teams showcased determination to claim an early advantage. REG leaned heavily on their powerful serves and attacking plays, creating moments of excitement for their fans. However, Police’s well-coordinated defensive efforts, particularly their consistent blocks and quick counterattacks, proved pivotal. Despite REG’s resilience, Police managed to edge out their opponents 25-23 in a thrilling first set that set the tone for the rest of the match. In the second set, Police elevated their game, demonstrating superior tactical awareness and squad depth. Their captain led by example, delivering a series of back-to-back aces that left REG scrambling. The third set saw REG make a final push, introducing fresh players in a bid to shift the momentum. For a brief period, they managed to close the gap with effective attacks and improved defensive setups. However, PVC’s composure and strategic precision ensured their control over the game remained unchallenged the match with a decisive 26-24 victory, leaving no doubt about their dominance in the men’s category. The opening set was highly competitive, with Kepler surprising their opponents by matching RRA point for point. The debutants showed remarkable grit, capitalising on every opportunity to keep the scoreline tight. However, RRA’s experience shone through in the latter stages, as they delivered critical blocks and well-placed attacks to close the set 25-17. Building on their momentum, RRA took charge in the second set, exploiting Kepler’s inconsistencies in serve reception and defensive organisation. RRA’s outside hitters Elizabeth Ijeama displayed exceptional precision, leading the team to a more comfortable 25-18 victory. Despite trailing, Kepler refused to back down in the third set, displaying determination to challenge the league veterans. While they managed to execute a few impressive plays, RRA maintained control, thanks to their superior teamwork and tactical execution. They sealed the set 25-16, completing a straight-set victory in their first game of Phase 2.
