FIFA's new prime club competition - the FIFA Club World Cup 2025- will grace the world stage in June and July 2025, when 32 of the globe's leading teams gather in the USA for the inaugural edition. Four African teams will be taking part including Mamelodi Sundowns - South Africa, Espérance de Tunis - Tunisia, Wydad Casablanca- Morocco and Al Ahly - Egypt. Al Ahly will face Messi's Inter Miami in the opening game of the first edition of the 32-team tournament Each of the 32 participating teams will receive $50m (RWF 70 billion) and the money will increase if the teams go further in the tournament. The project can see the clubs from Rwanda benefit if they manage to reach the finals of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. Teams like APR and Rayon Sports can participate in the next edition if they do well on the continent in the CAF Champions League and/or Confederation Cup. Friday, January 17 is exactly five months before the opening game between African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD of South Korea takes place at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 which is set to be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13. Masandawana, as they are commonly known, will be joined by Al Ahly, Esperance de Tunis and Wydad Casablanca at the tournament that now has 32 teams. Denis Onyango, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, said: “It is going to be a very difficult group for us because at the Club World Cup, all the clubs are champions of their leagues and most of them have been there many times. We want to go past the group stages.”
