National Law Reform Commission in pipeline The Senate on Friday approved the basis for a draft organic bill that will establish the National Law Reform Commission (NLRC). The bill is yet again to return to the Lower House before the final approval. Once approved the NLRC will be an independent and autonomous institution with administrative and financial autonomy and among others, will harmonize Rwandan laws at the international instruments. It will also draft laws for the constitution and consider proposals for reform of laws made by an institution or other interested party and, harmonise national laws with those of other EAC members. NUR recalls King Rudahigwa The National University of Rwanda (NUR) on Friday night observed a one minute silence in remembrance of King Mutara III Rudahigwa who died in 1959. This was before a play titled “Ruganzu kwa Nzira”, reminiscent of the conquests of King Ruganzu during 1438-1482. This was in the presence of the Minister of sports and culture, Joseph Habineza and other public officials. However, Belgians, the then colonialists are accused of having been behind Mutara III Rudahigwa’s death. The play was written by Kayishema Jean Marie, the Director of the University Centre for Arts and Drama.
