Rwandan rivals Rayon Sports and APR FC played out a goalless draw in feisty Rwanda Premier League derby held at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday, December 7. The derby had been postponed twice before the league body decided to finally schedule it on December 7. Saturday’s result wasn’t what fans from either side expected but Rayon coach Robertinho and his rival Darko Novic coaches agree that it was a fair outcome although they wanted the win it. Novic said that he knows the pedigree of his team and he is not worried about the draw with Rayon Sports. The Serbian gaffer indicated that his team had a strategy to hold Rayon and he is not upset about the outcome of the game. The draw is not a bad result. I don't care about the points difference because I know the pedigree of my team Novic told the press. We have already played at Amahoro against big names. We will continue pushing to win the remaining matches in the first round. We are still at the top.... Rayon Sports maintained their top spot with 30 points and are now 7 points clear of second-placed AS Kigali who beat Bugesera 2-1. Brazilian gaffer Robertinho said that he was pleased with the output although he wished a much better result from the derby. I am happy with the performance of my team. This is a derby and it was always going to be tight. I think people must also respect our opponent (APR) they deserve credit, Robertinho said. The important thing is that we are still on top of the league table and we are unbeaten so far, he added. We cannot play all games with the same formation. We look at the strength and weaknesses of our opponent to map up strategy. That’s why we played 4-3-3, he said. Rayon Sports return to action on December 14 when they take on in-form AS Kigali who are currently second in the league with 23 points while APR will host Kiyovu SC at Kigali Pele Stadium on December 11.
