Celebrations for World Teacher's Day have been postponed to November 2. The day was initially planned to be celebrated on October 28, but due to unidentified causes, celebrations have again been postponed. The changes have been disclosed in a letter written by the Ministry of Education, and addressed to all districts among other officials. “Based on letter No. 6556 REB/TDM&CGC/022 dated 30/9/2022, written to Districts notifying them of changes in the date of the celebrations of International Teacher’s Day celebrated on October 5 every year; “Based also on the decisions of the Cabinet meeting held on October 14, 2022, where the Minister of Education informed the meeting that Rwanda will celebrate International Teacher's Day on 28/10/2022, the Ministry of Education informs you that the International Day dedicated to teachers, which was scheduled for October 28, 2022 has been moved to the 2nd November 2022,” the letter reads in part. Usually, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on October 5worldwide. This year, it was observed under the theme “The transformation of education begins with teachers.” The day is celebrated annually to honour and appreciate teachers for their contribution to education. Meanwhile, Governments around the world have been called to step up support for teachers, warning that the profession is struggling to retain its workforce and attract new talent. The call, issued by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), came ahead of International Teachers Day worldwide. Worldwide, 69 million teachers are needed to reach universal basic education by 2030. The largest deficit is in sub-Saharan Africa.
