BK to offer internships, mentorship to Agahozo Shalom graduates

Bank of Kigali (BK) is set to offer mentorship support and internships to the graduates of Agahozo Shalom Youth Village (ASYV), among other support, a step expected to transform students’ lives after completing high school. The development was revealed by the CEO of BK, Diane Karusisi, during the graduation of the Class of 2022 at ASYV that took place on July 8. “The support is part of the school and bank partnership, and providing mentorship and internship is in line to help the school to keep on doing the great job they do towards development,” she said In addition, Karusisi pointed out that in the bank’s corporate social responsibility, education is among the areas they highly support, and that the education ASYV provides reflects on skills, values, and culture among others, a move the bank needs to be part of. Karusisi also revealed that there is a high chance to get a job in BK for ASYV graduates. This is because they believe in the education provided by the school, and that they have a lot of staff working with the bank already, she said. She further urged the graduates to keep the skills and knowledge they acquired explaining that it will be a pillar to help them succeed in life, as well as play a role in the country’s development. Moreover, Karusisi said that they are aware that the school also has various alumni in different fields, and encouraged them to approach the bank to keep on helping them in their development. Last year, BK entered a five-year-partnership with the school expecting to support the institution in delivering quality education to students. A total of 122 students graduated in various combinations, and among them 60 percent were girls while 40 percent were boys. During the same occasion, ASYV graduates commended all partners who have been part of their education journey. Serge Ndisanze, who graduated in a combination of History, Economy, and Geography (HEG) and Arts, said that he is ready to make his school proud and prepared for the time to allow other vulnerable children like him who have lost their parents. Annick Ishimwe, a graduate who pursued Mathematics, Computer Science, and Economy, said the knowledge she acquired from Agahozo will make her achieve her goals and development. In addition, she commended all the sponsors who have been part of their studies saying that they gave them confidence. Jean Claude Nkurikiyimfura, the Executive Director of ASYV said the school mainly focuses on vulnerable students to transform their lives. In addition, he urged them to have self-love, be polite, and love the country, noting that they are the future and will contribute to various areas of the countrys development. ASYV is located in Rubona Sector, Rwamagana District, founded by Philanthropist Anne Heyman, and they enrol about 500 students each year, since 2008.
