When Assoumani Sebazungu heard about ‘Genuine therapy services Centre’ he did not understand how he could restore his proper sleeping pattern after spending two years in insomnia due to ailing cervical discs. Kunga Services derives its name from Kinyarwanda word ‘Kunga’ which is an ancient form of physiotherapy in Rwanda - a way of doing therapy, fixing, joining or treating a bone fracture, a disorder by using only hands and fingers. The centre also offers therapy for children with disabilities such as those who can’t sit, fail in classes among other issues. “I had excruciating pain around my neck and five of the seven cervical disks were not well. Only the first and the second disks appear normal. I have been suffering from this for a long time,” Sebazungu narrated. He said he had been suffering from the ailing cervical discs for eight years. The cervical discs are the cushions that lie between the cervical vertebrae and they act as shock absorbers to allow your neck to move freely. “In the first six years I was seeking treatment from different facilities including physiotherapists and other types of treatment but in vain,” he said, adding that around 2020, he started experiencing insomnia. “I even went to neurologists and got transferred for surgery but I feared because the cervical disks could be replaced by plastic disks. It took time seeking treatment taking sedatives but I never recovered,” Sebazungu testified. It was until Assoumani watched testimony of someone who was treated by Genuine Kunga services Centre that he came for consultation. “After consultation, I began therapy. I was treated for two days and on the third day, I managed to sleep after two years of sleepless nights. I am now sleeping normally and the pain is reducing,” he said. Thanks to treatment by Genuine Kunga services Centre, he said that three of his disks have since healed. “These cervical disks are now well and I can move my neck freely. There only remains 6th and 7th cervical disk to get healed,” he said urging other people who are suffering from similar cases to consult the centre. How the centre operates Gad Kirenga, the CEO of “Genuine Services Centre’ said that the service was designed through analyzing Rwandan ancient physiotherapy and other ancient practices in different countries such as the Chinese acupuncture and Senegalese therapy. Acupuncture is done by inserting needles in the patient’s body to treat various physical and mental conditions. “At the centre we use our hands – a therapy we call ‘Kunga’ instead of using needles like ancient Chinese acupuncture. We target and use acupoints to treat problems in knee, ankle, neck, migraine, degenerated discs and others. In the body we have more than 232 acupoints,” he said. Acupoint is a specific spot on the body where treatment can be done to control pain and other symptoms. “We do Kunga therapy in one hour and half. We have never seen someone with headache, migraine who has ever exceeded two weeks still with pain. One week and half, the headache disappears. Someone with insomnia, it takes only two days to start sleeping We have testimony of 98 percent of patients who got healed. All those who had problems with their disks have fully healed. Most are given 20 sessions, but many of them get healed on the 10th session,” he said. He said the centre’s therapy service has been growing to the extent that a few years back, a child with cerebral palsy (a disorder that affects a persons ability to move and maintain balance and posture) would start to sit within four months,” he said. “Now they are able to sit even within between three weeks and two months,” he said, adding that younger ones, who are about six months will normally heal faster than old ones. How to access Genuine Centre services Genuine Centre has two branches in Kigali-one close to Kimironko market on KG ST 8 and the other on the left side of a former prison in Kimironko sector, Kigali city. They also operate a branch in Rubavu district which is located behind the main mosque while the branch in Muhanga district is located in front of Polyclinique Medicale La Providence. Genuine also operates in Zimbabwe. “In Kigali we receive 70 people in general both children and adults, every day. In Muhanga we receive around 20 people every day. In Rubavu we receive around 35 people per day. In Zimbabwe we receive about 50 people per day. In eight years, we have treated over 22,000 people in Rwanda according to our medical reports,” he said. He said that the centre also deploys therapists in Dubai to treat people on appointment. “They include some who had surgery appointments but we treat them and they recover without surgery. We are receiving people from Canada, USA, France and elsewhere. Some take vacation and come to Rwanda for a week treatment from our Kunga therapy. Kunga therapy is also now successful in Zimbabwe,” he said.
