The President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu will sponsor the Cecafa Women’s Cup, following in the footsteps of President Paul Kagame who sponsors the men’s club championship. The tourney which is set to be renamed to Samia Women Cup after the President agreed to sponsor it to the tune of $100,000 package. President Samia made the announcement at State House in Dar es Salaam during a luncheon with the players of the Under-23 soccer team and the Olympic athletics team. In a ceremony that coincided with the reception of the East and Central African Championship trophy which the Tanzania women football team recently won, President Samia expressed her acceptance of being the sponsor of the tournament at the request of the Tanzania Football Federation.
