Christopher John Kirubi, a Kenyan businessman lost his battle with cancer, on Monday, June 14, his family confirmed to local media. His family said that the billionaire owner of Capital FM had long battled the disease. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Christopher J. Kirubi (1941-2021) who passed away today, Monday, June 14, 2021, at 1 p.m. at his home after a long battle with cancer fought with fortitude, grace and courage. He was surrounded by his family, read part of the statement issued by his family. Raila Odinga, former Kenyan Prime Minister was among the first to mourn Kirubi’s demise. Chris Kirubi was my friend and one to many others and a mentor to even more. He was a dedicated entrepreneur and philanthropist who helped scores of Kenyans over time. My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched, eulogised Raila. Kirubi was an influential entrepreneur with notable investments including Centum Real Estate that owned the Two Rivers Mall in Kenyas capital Nairobi. He was also invested in the Manufacturing, Media, Real Estate, Insurance and Investment Sectors of Kenya’s economy. He had various business interests across the East African region. Kirubi also previously served as the chairman of Coca-Cola Nairobi Bottlers, DHL Worldwide Express, Capital Media Group, International House Limited, and Smart Applications International among others.
