Despite playing relatively easier opponents in Bejaia of Algeria, APR still went down in straight sets (0-3) in the first of four quarter-final games played yesterday at Kasarani sports complex in Nairobi. APR, making their debut at the African Women Club volleyball championships, lost 25-23, 26-24 and 25-22 to bury any hopes of playing in the semi-finals. After the defeat, APR’s Kenyan coach Paul Bitok said that inexperience was one of their major undoing against the Algerians. “We lost partly because we were less experienced. We also failed to handle the pressure,” he said. “But on a whole, I think we had a good game. We are now targeting to finish in the top six.” APR played Bejaia after Kenya Pipelines had been disqualified by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB). The seven time champions together with Kenya prisons, the defending champions were disqualified after allegedly fielding illegal players. Ends
