THROUGHOUT THIS WEEK, pizza lovers will have the chance to enjoy delicious pizzas from 20 restaurants with each offering the Kigali Pizza Festival combo, which comprises of any pizza of your choice and a Coke at 20 per cent discount. In its inaugural edition, the festival dubbed ‘Kigali Pizza Week’ kicked off on April 30 and will end on May 9. Organised by RG Consult in partnership with Rush Foods, a delivery application the festival is the first of its kind in Rwanda. According to Remmy Lubega, the C.E.O of RG Consult, the Kigali Pizza Week is the start of a series of food festivals to be celebrated. He explained that the partnership between Kimironkomarket.rw, an initiative of RG Consult that sells groceries online, Cocacola and Rush Foods, another e-commerce was to share costs because in as much there has been a struggle with traffic they wanted to attract clients to buy food online. He added: “the purpose of this festival is to also help restaurants that have been struggling during this pandemic to accelerate themselves. We are looking at ways in which businesses can get back to normal and create opportunities for them because restaurants and hotels are part of the businesses that have been hit by the pandemic regardless of the fact that they are essential service providers. Our business is to accelerate business through e-commerce promotion and also try to look for opportunities of how we can come together as a fraternity to deal with the challenges of this pandemic. The other reason is that we want to shake town a little bit. The town has been quiet without concerts like the Kigali Jazz Junction. People would wish to have some little bit of festival and merry-making, and what better way than to enjoy pizza as long as you observe the COVID guidelines. Pizza was invented about 200 years ago which makes it worth and is one of the most celebrated foods so we brought the best pizza places for 10 days under one festival. The festival is however, open to online buyers using the Rush Foods application under the Kigali Pizza Week, and diners. Going forward, Lubega hopes that the second edition will be organised physically, designated in an open area with Italian music and fashion to celebrate pizza’s origin.
