FERWACY, Belgium partner to boost skills of local riders

The Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) is set to sign a capacity building deal with Belgium, aimed at giving training clinics to local riders. Abdallah Murenzi, the President of the federation has been on a working visit in Belgium last week where he discussed with Tom Van Damme the President of the Belgian Cycling Federation concerning signing a partnership agreement to enhance cycling skills in Rwanda. In February this year, Van Damme, is expected in the country during the Tour du Rwanda, and that is when the two federations will sign the partnership deal. “The agreement will help us to improve the skills of riders and coaches. We will send our cyclists Belgium for training or have Belgian experts coming here to train our cyclists,” Murenzi said. While in Belgium, Murenzi also met with the management of Ridley Bikes, a company that manufactures racing bikes to discuss how to get bicycle equipment at a lower cost. Murenzi says Ridley Bikes factory agreed to provide bicycles for races at reduced prices. Jochim Aerts, the Director of Ridley Bikes is expected to come for the Tour du Rwanda in February to sign a contract with the management of FERWACY. The Ridley Bikes factory started in 1997, with their Lotto Soudal bicycles winning two daily prizes in the 2020 Tour de France and La Vuelta.
