The Minister of Health, Dr. Daniel Ngamije, has said that another set of COVID-19 patients, who have recovered will be discharged today. He was speaking during an interview on public broadcaster, Rwanda Television (RTV) on Saturday. “Even today, 11 patients who have recovered are set to be discharged. They are still clearing with the team in charge, but they will be released today”, he said. This is the third set of patients that will be discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 18. The new development means Rwanda remains with 100 active cases of COVID-19, out of 118 confirmed cases as of April 11th. According to RBC, for one to be released, he is tested twice with an interval of 72 hours and found negative of the virus, thus the decision to discharge them. Once they get discharged, as medics say, they have to self-quarantine for 14 days. Information released from the Ministry of Health indicates that all patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. “The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition.” The Kanyinya facility has about 8 Intensive Care Unit beds, but according to info from the hospital, no patient has required the use of these. Since the first case was confirmed on March 14, Rwanda has not yet recorded any case of coronavirus death. Globally, 316,520 recovered people are said to have recovered out of the 1,469,240 people that have been infected with COVID-19. About 86, 270 are said to have succumbed to the disease.
