Members of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) from Northern Province have contributed Rwf13 million towards efforts to eradicate issues that affect the wellbeing of vulnerable residents in the province. This was during the party’s General Assembly that took place in Musanze District on Saturday. RPF officials from the Northern Province reveal that at least 1368 households don’t have shelter, while some other 3390 struggle to access appropriate toilets. “These families especially those without houses to live in are in most cases given shelter by districts and sectors,” noted Jean-Marie Vianney Gatabazi, the RPF chairman in Northern Province. Gatabazi explained that the collected funds will be used to construct houses and toilets for the residents who do not have them. In addition to the contributed funds, he said, RPF members will, through the community works, Umuganda—help build houses for the needy residents. “The contribution is still little compared to what is needed to be done, but it is actually an example of the possibilities. We have therefore tasked district leaders and the private sector to work hand-in-hand toward collecting the remaining funds for the project to be achieved. The partnership is crucial as RPF-Inkotanyi is there to look for a solution to problems that hinder the citizens’ progress,” said Gatabazi He added: “The Government will play its part in this project; that is why we are assuring that the houses and toilets will be constructed as we aim to ensure that every Rwandan from the Northern Province has a decent house to live in by 2020.” More involvement Members of RPF from across Northern Province pledged to actively play their role in implementing the project. “As women we understand our role towards transforming the wellbeing of Rwandans given that RPF leadership restored our dignity in the last 25 years and that is why the women league sets to construct five houses for disadvantaged families from the province,” said Christine Akimpaye, the RPF president for the women’ league in the province. She underscored that the women league will construct a house in each district of the province. Emmanuel Ndahimana, a youth and RPF member, echoed Akimpaye’s sentiments, saying, “We are aware that the future of this country lies in the hands of the young generation and are thus ready to contribute by getting involved in every activity, which requires our strengths.” editor@newtimesrwanda.com
