Natural hair is a trend that will never dwindle. Whether short or long, natural hair is a pure and effortless look. It can work for any occasion, depending on how you choose to style it. As someone with natural hair, my view is that if you want to spend less on hair and still look astonishing, going natural is the way to do that. However, hair grows at its own pace, for some fast, and others slow. This is how you can make it grow easily; Wash with conditioner. Washing your hair with conditioner also known as “co-washing,” is a way to slightly cleanse hair and replenish dry strands at the same time. Co-washing keeps hair soft and hydrated, especially during the colder months. If your hair is very brittle, co-washing can be done very frequently. Use a deep conditioner weekly with a plastic cap in the shower, under a dryer, or even overnight to activate the heat. Comb with care. When your hair is full of conditioner and wet. Section the hair off into two parts, then riven it into four. Take your time and be gentle and detangle from the bottom to the root. Making sure you have the right detangling tools is an absolute must. After detangling, put your hair into double-strand twists and rinse out the conditioner with the twists still in. Dry your hair appropriately. Carefully squash and pat your hair dry with an old cotton t-shirt or, microfiber towel. This cares for the hair more and really helps to reduce breakage. Avoid Heat. Try to avoid heat drying and styling if you can until your hair is in better shape. If you are going to apply heat, use a heat protectant, keep temperatures low, and use a blow dryer with a comb attachment to prevent further damage. Protect your edges. Usually, damage happens at the hairline irrespective of quality, and that’s why it is regarded as “baby hair”. It’s the deluxe, softest hair, however, you can avoid breakage by keeping your baby hair soft and moisturised. Get trims regularly. Don’t get freaked out to trim the hair tips thinking you are cutting your hair. Getting a trim every three and a half to four months will keep your hair good. Hair trimming should be done to remove thinning hair cuticles and to alleviate breakage. Trimming is meant to slow breakage or even stop it for a while so that your hair has the ability to continue growing against breaking off. The strands of the hair get thinner as they grow away from the scalp. Keep your hair moisturised. Adopt a routine of using leave in conditioners, oils, and creams to keep your hair hydrated and protected at all costs. Limit how often you heat style your hair and use a lower heat setting when you do. Consider using ionic hairdryers, use the right shampoo. Choose shampoo and conditioner intended for your hair type. Avoid anything that contains silicones and sulfates. Take care of how you wash your hair. Use shampoo mostly on your scalp, and conditioner mostly on the ends of your hair. Take care of how you brush your hair. Always brush your hair starting from the ends, and never straight down from the roots. Also, avoid brushing your hair while it is wet, as this can easily rip or tear it. Instead, gently comb your hair out using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Once your hair is dry, you can brush it out using a wide-toothed comb (recommended for curly hair types) or a natural, boar bristle brush (this will help redistribute your hair’s natural oils). editorial@newtimesrwanda.com
