With a heavy heart, I write to honour the remarkable life of a cherished mentor, a guiding light, a father figure, a chemistry oracle, and a friend whose impact will forever resonate in the depths of our souls. I met Mr. Kalisa back in 1998 when I joined Apred Ndera Secondary School where he was my headmaster as well as my chemistry teacher. As our leader, he graced our lives with wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to education. Mr. Kalisa knew that there was a gift in each and every one of us and he pushed us to our limits to excel. As a mentor, he possessed a rare gift – the ability to ignite the flames of curiosity and passion within each of his students. With boundless enthusiasm, he transformed the complexities of chemistry into a symphony of understanding, leaving an indelible mark on the minds and hearts of all who had the privilege of learning under his tutelage. Beyond the confines of the classroom, he embodied the very essence of a father figure. He offered not only academic guidance but also encouragement and a listening ear to life's trials and triumphs. His presence was a beacon of strength, offering solace and wisdom in times of uncertainty. In the laboratory, he was a maestro, conducting experiments with precision and flair, instilling in us not only the principles of science but also the virtues of patience, perseverance, and the importance of meticulous attention to detail. His passion for chemistry was infectious, inspiring us to strive for excellence and to approach each challenge with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Yet, perhaps his most profound impact was felt in the bonds of friendship he cultivated over the years. He was more than a mentor or a teacher – he was a confidant, a source of laughter, and a pillar of unwavering support. His kindness knew no bounds, and his presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories we hold dear. As we mourn our beloved headmaster, chemistry teacher, mentor, father figure, and friend, let us take solace in the conviction that his spirit will continue to guide us, his wisdom will continue to inspire us, and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Rest in power, my dear friend. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will endure for generations to come. May the Lord strengthen his immediate family; Mama Thatcher, Jessie, Jolly, Molly, Jenny, Thatcher, Joanna, Jackie and Young during such a difficult time. Intwari Ntizipfa, Zirasinzira!
