Christafari to perform at Prayer House band launch

Christafari, a Christian reggae band from the U.S., will perform in Kigali this month, in a show at which one of the newest gospel bands in the country will be unveiled. The show is scheduled for January 20, at the Prayer House in Kicukiro. The Prayer House is a youth-centered Christian ministry founded by local gospel musician, Olivier Kavutse and his wife Amanda Fang Kavutse, under the umbrella of Beauty For Ashes Rwanda, an NGO. Kavutse is also the founder of Beauty For Ashes band, the musical arm of the ministry. He explained that the purpose of the show is to launch a new gospel music band. “We are merging our two bands (Beauty For Ashes, and Alive And Free) and other worship leaders in the Prayer House community together to create one band called the Prayer House Band.” He added: “Another milestone we will be launching is a music label called The Fourth Man Music, probably the first Christian music label in Rwanda.” At the show, the first crop of artists signed to the new music label will be unveiled. The show will also be graced by local female gospel singer Aline Gahongayire. It is the second time the Christafari band will be performing in Rwanda within a space of months. The band held their first performance in the country dubbed Unstoppable Concert alongside Beauty For Ashes band on August 4, last year, at Camp Kigali. Christafari was formed in the U.S., in 1990, and is centered on the personality of the founder and band leader, Mark Mohr. The band is known around the world for songs like How great is our God, 10,000 reasons, Hosanna, Here I am to worship, and Our God. “The idea of inviting them again, even though it seems too soon, is that they loved being in Rwanda the last time and they loved the way we treated them. They have been in East Africa since the beginning of the year, touring in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and were looking for other ministry opportunities, and it turned out that we were also launching a new band,” said Olivier Kavutse. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
