Mugeni 32 Pts DAVIS Kashaka got his 2009 season off to a flyer after winning Saturday’s Fina Bank monthly mug at Kigali Golf Club. The former national team captain fired two-under-par 70 to beat off a stiff challenge from club captain Marcel Byusa who returned an impressive 71net. Kashaka claimed he felt ‘fortunate’ to win after a shaky start where he fired a bogey on hole one and a double bogey on hole six. However, birdies on the 4th, 17th and 18th hole put him back in pole position. The victory was a great relief for the national team golfer after his not up to scratch run in last year’s East African Golf Challenge. Kashaka, one of the most experienced golfers on the team failed to impress at the annual regional tournament that was staged in Kenya. Rwanda came last in the five-nation event.“It is good to get back to winning ways,” he said before adding, “The weather was perfect. It was really golf weather and the greens were holding so putting was not a problem,” he said. “I am encouraged with the way I have started off the year and hope to carry on,” he added. In the other categories, Taib Taib shot 72net to top Group B while Linda Mugeni amassed 32 stable ford points to top the ladies category. Ends
