A group of artists spearheaded by King Ngabo, launched an initiative, Art for Memories in 2023, to assist Genocide Survivors to keep memories alive by preserving photos of the victims of the Genocide against Tutsi in 1994. The initiative aims at creating new portraits of the dead and missing derived from old and often damaged photographs, inspired by King Ngabo. Ngabo is a creative and founder of Ingabo Corner, an art museum for telling African stories. ALSO READ: Kwibuka30: Rwanda honours Genocide victims As Rwanda commemorates the loss of more than one million innocent lives in the Genocide and ensures that such atrocities never emerge again, artists urge the public to provide photos of their deceased families, so that they improve their quality through digital art, for free. Due to a lack of materials, the creative will only assist in refurbishing few images until they have all the necessary equipment to deliver on time.
