Sahasra Electronics builds Rwf 9 million-house for a genocide survivor in Gasabo

The Management of Sahasra Electronics Rwanda PVT Ltd on Saturday donated funds to build a house for a genocide survivor identified as Agnes Karubibi in Gikomero Setor, Gasabo District. The construction activities of the house, worth Rwf 9 million, kicked off during the Saturday’s community service when Sahasra staff joined the community at Karubibi’s home for the activity. After laying the foundation stone where house is being built, Suresh Negi, the General Manager of Sahasra, said the electronic service provider is committed to help vulnerable families, especially genocide survivors in one way or another. “As a company operating in Rwanda we want to do a social work for the community, by especially supporting the poor, especially by supporting genocide survivors. We know that supporting people is part of our prior responsibilities and that is why our staff are here for this a social responsibility programme,” said Negi. Valerie Mukabahire, the president of Avega Agahozo in Gikomero Sector, thanked Sahasra’s humanitarian activity of contributing in supporting a genocide survivor, as a way of comforting her in this commemoration period. “We are thankful to Sahasra’s support which comes at a time genocide survivors need comfort most during these days. Karubibi was going to be almost homeless but we are happy that she is going to get a new home,” she said. Karubibi, 59, is one of the residents in Gasabo who were affected by the April rainy disasters, having seen her house’s foundation and partly destroyed while her latrine was also washed away by the previous rain downpour. Before she gets a new house, which is now under construction, Karubibi testifies that she, her daughter and grandchildren, could find no escape from the rain and have no choice other than letting water currently reach them in their bedroom whenever it rains. “The house is getting destroyed from its foundation by the rain and could fall over us at any time. But since there is hope that I am getting a new house soon, I really have nothing to say but to wish Sahasra all the best and blessing from God for their support,” she excitedly said. She now expects to get her new home, accompanied a set of home kits, be completed in the next three weeks and was assured that her two grandchildren, who dropped out of school due to financial difficulties, will be supported to continue their primary studies. The construction activities will be monitored by RG consult, who are currently the company’s marketing partners. The company is dedicated to manufacturing light-emitting diode (LED) lights and other electronics in Masoro.
