As we celebrate International Women's Day this year under the theme Inspire Inclusion, it's crucial to shine a spotlight on the remarkable women who are breaking barriers and reshaping the landscape of the technology sector. In a field historically dominated by men, women at companies like MTN Rwanda are not only making their mark but also inspiring inclusivity and diversity everywhere they go. Within MTN Rwanda, inclusivity isn't just a concept—it's a tangible reality. Leading the charge at MTN Rwandacell PLC are two exemplary women who have defied stereotypes and risen to the top of their field. Mapula Bodibe, the Chief Executive Officer, brings over 17 years of experience in the telecommunications sector to her role. With a strong background in consumer business and marketing, she has proven her leadership prowess time and again, previously serving in key positions at MTN South Africa and Uganda. Joining her is Chantal Kagame, the Chief Executive Officer of Mobile Money Rwanda Limited, who brings over 19 years of senior telecom executive experience to the table. Her track record of achievements in sales, distribution, strategy development, and corporate affairs speaks volumes about her dedication and expertise in the industry. Beyond the executive suite, numerous women at MTN Rwanda are challenging stereotypes and driving innovation in roles traditionally perceived as male dominated. From Network Operations to Information Technology, these women are making significant contributions to the company's success and reshaping perceptions within the industry. Whether it's optimising network performance, implementing innovative IT solutions, or spearheading mobile money technologies, these women are at the forefront of driving progress and inspiring others to pursue careers in technology. In addition to the remarkable achievements of women at MTN Rwanda, the company fosters an inclusive environment through initiatives such as the Women Excel Network (WeNet). Founded in 2019 on International Women's Day, WeNet's mission is to provide a forum for MTN Rwanda's women to educate, empower, and inspire as they strive to lead brighter lives. WeNet envisions achieving a diverse work environment where men and women are empowered to contribute to their full potential, thereby strengthening and transforming communities. WeNet further supports women's career development through various programs, including mock interviews, mentoring programmes, and encouraging women to take up courses in technology. By championing gender equality and providing opportunities for women to thrive, MTN Rwanda and Mobile Money Rwanda Ltd are not only fostering a more inclusive work environment, but also going beyond their walls into the communities they serve. Through initiatives like the upcoming annual Connecting Women in Business, which supports saving groups both financially and with training in business acumen, they are empowering women beyond the company's confines and fostering economic growth in the community.
