Haruna targeted by Tanzania’s Azam

The Nine-time league champions APR are on the brink of losing their impressive winger Niyonzima Haruna to mega-rich Tanzanian Premier League club, Azam. Azam, who are fifth in their league are said to have approached Rwanda’s 19-year-old playmaker Haruna Niyonzima. Azam has managed to recruit top players who include former Rayon Sport custodian Vladimir Niyonkuru, who is also Burundi’s number one keeper. Niyonzima was one of APR’s top players at this year’s Kagame Cup tournament in Dar es Salaam which was won by Tusker. APR club manager, Capt. Eric Ntazinda told Times Sport yesterday that the military side is aware of Azam’s interest in Niyonzima but that no formal talks have been held about a possible deal. According to Ntazinda, the player was contacted personally but because he is under contract with APR, Niyonzima directed Azam officials to talk to APR. “If they (Azam) are interested in Haruna, they will contact APR but for now, the player still has two years on his contract,” Ntazinda said. Meanwhile, Azam is offering a transfer fee worth $10,000 to Uganda Cranes’ 22-year-old midfielder, Dan Wagaluka. Wagaluka who plays for Uganda’s URA will join the club if the two clubs reach an agreement. Ends
