Editor, RE: “Gara calls for embezzlement to be classified as corruption” (The New Times, March 21). Prosecutors ought to start treating some corruption cases as treason. Also, tax evasion needs to but punished by the law. In China, some of these cases attract capital punishment. I don’t condone that because I consider it a violation of a fundamental human right, but I wanted to show how serious corruption is treated in some countries. In Japan, for instance, even after you have served your sentence, restaurants won’t serve you food, and families won’t marry their daughters to you. They are all like: why did you do it? Gatete
