American point guard Destiney Philoxy has joined Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women basketball club ahead of the 2023 FIBA Africa Women's Basketball League (AWBL). Due in Cairo, Egypt, from December 11-19, the AWBL serves as Africa’s biggest showpiece in women's club basketball. ALSO READ: AWBL: Are REG Women up to the task? A reliable source from the club management confirmed to Times Sport that an agreement has been reached with the 23-year-old who will join her teammates on Monday, December 4. ALSO READ: REG, KPA qualify for FIBA Africa Champions Cup Destiney was part of the Rwandan women’s national team that finished in fourth place at the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket that took place in Kigali in August where she averaged 17.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. With the signings, REG Women promises to be a team to watch at the continental big stage despite making its maiden appearance at the AWBL competition.
