When she was growing up, Bonita Akaliza was taught by her father how to keep and manage time. She was a good listener and followed every step. She learned how to keep a timetable for everything and with discipline and focus she was always on top of her time, life and other productive activities. Her time management skills turned her into an extra-ordinary student, who met deadlines, performed well in class, exploited different opportunities and greatly reaped big out her school life. Below are tips to help you make most of your time. Prioritise your weekly schedule: Any educational/academic studies must come first, then extra curriculum activities, and then social life. Friends will want to hang out with you on the weekends, but they will understand if you explain to them that you need to study or catch up on school work. List the exact due dates for events, assignments, tests and other homework. This will greatly help you to remind you when things need to be done by. Next, sort extra-curricular activities. Any activity dealing with school should be placed before. Get at least 6-9 hours of sleep. If you have more or less sleep than you should have, you may start lacking in your schoolwork and become lazy because of the urge or want to sleep. A sound sleep is vital. Go over your homework or assignments with other students. It’s always a positive action to team up with your fellow students, most especially for difficult tasks. Team-working enables you to achieve a lot, than you could alone. Don’t neglect your health. Just because you’re short of time doesn’t mean you should live on junk food; a balanced diet is important. Try to get your fruits and vegetables every day. Remember to do regular exercises. Doing these things will support mental, physical and emotional function. Try to have a fixed timetable. Having one enables you to be focused and perform your tasks with ease. Take up a new activity. Although many might think this will make one’s day even more hectic, it will force you to be even more conscious as to how you are using your time. Have a proper study atmosphere wherein you don’t get bored. Use creative atmosphere like studying using a table lamp-as it makes focus on only the matter you are reading. Avoid social networking sites as they will waste your precious time. Review if your schedule has been effective: Constantly reviewing your schedule can help you to recognise whether you need to make any changes in order to help you complete any school tasks and also have time to relax with friends and family.
