Rwanda Cycling Cup race enters final stage

The inaugural Rwanda Cycling Cup concludes this weekend with local riders racing through the Tour du Rwanda routes starting with Muhanga-Rwamagana (140km) on Saturday before finishing with Rubavu-Kigali, a distance of 165km on Sunday. After this weekend, the event organizers, Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) will compile points from the ten races to determine the national champion. The major aim of the Rwanda Cycling Cup is to prepare Team Rwanda riders for Tour du Rwanda, which is scheduled for November 15-22. Categorised under ten races, Rwanda Cycling Cup started in April with Hadi Janvier winning the Race to Remember and Race for Culture in June. Jean Bosco Nsangimana, also of Benediction Club won Northern Circuit and last weekend he won the 9th stage from Rwamagana to Huye, while the Nyagatare to Rwamagana stage, a distance of 135 kilometres was claimed by his teammate Emile Bintunimana. Patrick Byukusenge secured the Western Circuit, while Amis Sportifs rider Jean Claude Uwizeye won Tour of Kigali and his teammate Joseph Haleluya won Kivu Race. The Race against Watch was claimed by the reigning Tour du Rwanda champion Ndayisenga whereas Joseph Biziyaremye of Ciney Elmay took the National Championships race. The Tour du Rwanda will have eight stages covering a total distance of 938.5 kilometers and for the first time will have a record 85 riders, five cyclists for each of the seventeen teams, for the 2.2 UCI Africa race.
