Muvunyi off to Qatar for IPC World Championships

RWANDA international Paralympian Hermas Cliff Muvunyi and Jean Claude Ndayisenga have departed for the 7th IPC Athletics World Championships slated for October 22-31 at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The duo left the country yesterday aboard Qatar Airways. Fresh from an impressive performance at the 11th All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville last month, the duo is targeting to win medals in Qatar. The 800m category has since been removed from all IPC competitions, meaning Muvunyi will be competing in T46 400m and in T46 1500m races. Muvunyi, who recently broke his own record of 49:75 as the fastest African Paralympian in 400m after clocking 49:16 in Brazzaville, will be making his second appearance at the World Championships while upcoming star Ndayisenga is making his debut. The 21-year old Ndayisenga made his break-through on the international scene earlier this year at the Grand Prix de Paris in January from where he earned his qualification to compete in the World Championships. He will be looking to register an impressive debut as he eyes a ticket to the 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Last month, he proved his talent at the All Africa Games where he clocked 52:88 to finish sixth in the T46 400m, finishing 3:62 seconds behind compatriot Muvunyi, who used 49:16 on his way to gold. The upcoming International Paralympics Committee will feature 210 medal events, 119 for men and 91 for female. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
