A new water reservoir at Kadahokwa in Huye District is expected to ensure adequate water supply in the town for the next 50 years, officials have said. The reservoir can suplly 600,000m3 of water and is expected to increase water supply from the current 6,000m3 to 8,000m3 per day. It cost the district Rwf1.9 billion. The director of Kadahokwa Water Treatment Plant, Jonas Munyamahoro, said during the dry season, the town faces water shortage and the demand for water was set to rise. “We had been facing a water scarcity between July and September, which sometimes resulted in water rationing. However, with the new reservoir, we hope the problem will be addressed,” he said. Meanwhile, residents of Gishamvu Sector where the reservoir’s source of water is, have requested that they also benefit from the initiative. “We have no piped water, yet the source of the new supply line is here. The district should give us at least one tap so we also access clean water,” said Felix Kanyamuneza, a resident of Ryakibogo Cell in Gishamvu. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
