Forty enterprising people living with disabilities (PLWDs) from Gasabo District have received an assortment of facilities and start-up items to set up their own businesses, reports Jean Népo Ndikumana. The donation from local telecom firm Airtel aims at supporting people with disabilities to earn sustainable income to improve their livelihoods, Denise Umunyana, the Airtel head of corporate communications and corporate social responsibility, said. Each beneficiary received a phone to transact Airtel Money business and sell airtime; 10 sim cards, a workstation (table), umbrella and airtime worth Rwf30,000. “In addition to these, Airtel will help them find appropriate places where they can set up their businesses,” she added while handing over the items at Jabana sector, in Gasabo District on Tuesday. Romalis Niyomugabo, the president of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities, said the support will inspire other PLWDs to start income-generating projects to improve their standards of living. The donation was provided in partnership with IjwiRya Bose, a Kigali-based media group.
