10 years of Rwanda Film Festival

Rwanda Cinema Centre will be hosting the 10th annual Rwanda Film Festival commonly known as ‘Hillywood’ from July 12th – July 18th according to Eric Kabera, Founder of Rwanda Cinema Centre. “This year is special. We will premiere a new movie Intore on the 12th and at the finale we shall screen Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. We will be showing movies in Kigali, Rwamagana, Musanze, Huye and Rubavu,” he added. The week-long festival will feature over 60 movies and will include movies from China, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and other African countries. The opening movie Intore is about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and it shows how Rwanda has used theatre plays, songs and dances to foster reconciliation. It also features commentaries from various artistes including France-based Rwandan musician Corneille. The movie Mandela “Long Walk to Freedom” which was released this year will be screened on 18th July which will coincide with Nelson Mandela’s birth date. At the finale, Rwanda Cinema Centre will hand out the Silverback Awards to the best writers, producers and actors.
