Fanfare at the annual international food fair

LIKE they say food brings strangers together. Indeed this was the case last Sunday at the 9th annual Africa International Club (AIC) international food fair held at the Dutch residence in the leafy Nyarutarama, a Kigali suburb. People were treated to 4 hours of a generous array of cuisines from all over the world starting at 12 noon. Big names in catering around Kigali like Khana Kazana, Meze Fresh, Mosaic Gourmet restaurant, Via Veneto restaurant, Brood, Palm restaurant and Zen Oriental Cuisine, among others, graced the event with different mouth watering cuisines alongside embassies showcasing traditional food from their respective countries. The Egypt, Korea, Nepal and Japan embassies were among the participants that showcased their traditional dishes. With each ticket going for Rwf 10,000 for adults and Rwf 5000 for children, the place was full to capacity and everyone, young and old, were seen enjoying the different dishes of their choice. Wines, juice, beer and other drinks were in equal abundance. To keep everyone in a light mood, music played and there was a children’s play ground. The diversity of the dishes gave attendants a chance to taste, appreciate and celebrate other foods from around the world. Susan Agwang, a Kenyan national and her friend Chris Pike, an American, were excited by the variety of dishes around. “It is wonderful to feel the entire world in my mouth,” Pike said. African International Club (AIC) through partnership with embassies will hold the international food fair annually. The money collected from the event is channeled to different charities around Rwanda and beyond. The event was also sponsored by Heineken, Turkish Airlines, The Kingdom of Netherlands and African International Club Rwanda.
