Eymael to part ways with Rayon Sport

RAYON SPORTS head coach Belgium born, Luc Eymael is set to leave the seven-time league champions this weekend. The development comes after Ferwafa lessened sanctions slapped against the Belgian over his involvement in violence during a league match last season. The sanctions were reduced to a ban of eight matches instead of two years and a fine of Rwf200,000 following an appeal. “It’s true Eymael has expressed his desire to leave the club because he thinks he will be doing nothing here with the eight-match ban,” Rayon Sports FC Chairman Theogene Nampak said on Friday. “Sitting out eight matches is a difficult decision for him and this means that he won’t be able to manage the remaining matches of the Peace Cup competition, where we have our only hope of winning silverware this season,” “We understand he wants to leave the club and look for somewhere else he can extend his career. We are set to finalise our discussions with him later in the evening (yesterday) to see how both parties can settle out the issue,” Ntampaka said. He further commended Eymael for having done his best to help the club. “He is a good coach, and has been doing a good job for the club. We thank him for the good work done since the start of the year,” noted Ntampaka. Eymael, who replaced Didier Gomes da Rosa in January this year, had two months still left on his contract with the Nyanza-based club. The former AFC Leopards coach had promised to take the club as far as possible in the Africa club champion’s league and win at least one of the titles on the local scene. But the club was knocked out of the Africa Champions League after playing a 2-2 draw against 10-man AC Leopards to exit the Caf Champions League at the preliminary round on the away goal rule. The blues also lost the league title to rivals APR with Rayon Sports finishing second with two points behind the military side. And with the eight match suspension, this automatically means he will not take the club to the remaining matches of the Peace Cup. If Rayon Sports and Eymael decide to part ways, team manager Thierry Hitimana and assistant coach Billy Mbusa Kombi will be in charge of the team until a new head coach is named.
