Over 20 journalists and media experts attending a week-long labour training in Bugesera have been urged to prioritise stories related to labour rights since it is a crucial component in society. Organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), in partnership with Rwanda Journalists Association (ARJ), the training is dubbed “Awareness raising and capacity building and human rights in Rwanda, with an emphasis on labour rights.” It intends to help journalists understand the elaboration and supervision of International Labour System (ILS). Participants said they are looking forward to understanding challenges related to labour in Rwanda, especially issues related to poor remuneration and irregularities, which affect all sectors, including the media, which is supposed to advocate for the other sectors. ILO trainers and labour experts from Rwanda and beyond are facilitating the training. ILO facilitators said the intention is to help all the stake holders who bring labour issues to light to understand the ILS.
