THE Rwanda Karate Federation is optimistic of a good show at the African Youth Games slated for May 22-31 in Gaborone, Botswana. The federation’s technical director Guy Rurangayire told Times Sport yesterday that the athletes picked have been undergoing intensive training since late last month and they remain confident on staging good performances in Gaborone. “They train twice every week. The females are national champions in their categories and the boys too have improved in their performances,” “We will keep on engaging them in rigorous training in bid to help them win a medal or two in the Africa Youth Games. It’s possible considering their current performances,” added Rurangayire. In Karate, Rwanda will be represented by four athletes; two girls and two boys. They include; Sakina Cyuzuzo (48kg), Razia Uwase (53kg), David Fils Niyongabo (55kg) and Regis Katabarwa (61kg). However, 17-year old Regis Katabarwa might be omitted from the team due to age restrictions. The games attract athletes under the age of 17, a feat which might Katabarwa eliminated.
