Over 1000 police recruits complete course

A total of 1,323 youths, including 179 women, completed Basic Recruit Course at Gishari Police Training school in Rwamagana District yesterday. The course lasted 10 months. The Minister for Internal Security Musa Fazil Harerimana gave them the rank of Police Constable. Dieudonne Ndayisenga and Jean Claude Masumbuko were recognised as the overall best trainee and first-runner up, respectively, while Constable Donata Musanabera emerged the best female trainee and third best overall. At least 73 recruits did not complete the course due to different reasons, Police spokesman ACP Damas Gatare said. Minister Harerimana urged the police constables to be exemplary and be ready to help enforce the law. He told them that power comes with responsibility and abuse of authority on their part does not only undermine their credibility as individuals but also that of the Force. “The government has entrusted you with noble duties…you should lead by example. The law doesn’t spare anybody, including police officers. You should always endeavour to provide high quality service,” the minister told the new members of the Force. “Let us be courteous in our daily work, in our interactions with the public. Let us all uphold the Code of Conduct of the Rwanda National Police, which requires us to create a safe and secure environment for all.” Harerimana warned the police officers against taking bribes. “Credibility and integrity is all we expect from you”. The police officers, who mounted a parade, will immediately be deployed in different parts of the country, according to officials.
