Official calls for door-to-door health insurance campaign

Local leaders have been advised to come up with innovative ways of sensitising residents about the need to subscribe to the Community-Based Health Insurance (BCBHI) scheme, better known as Mutuelle de Sante. Joseph Shema, the acting director of the Health Financing Unit in the Ministry of Health made the call on Wednesday on the sidelines of a one-week auto-evaluation workshop which brought together about 60 district CBHI coordinators and policy implementers from across the country. The workshop, organised at the end of each quarter, is an occasion for the Mutuelle coordinators and policy implementers to meet, conduct an auto-evaluation for the past quarter, share best practices, achievements and as well as challenges and how to overcome them. The one-week workshop will be concluded on Friday. Speaking to The New Times, Shema tasked local leaders to ensure adherence to the insurance scheme by coming up with innovative, localised and strong sensitisation strategies. He advocated for door-to-door mobilisation, noting that it might help raise subscription to the scheme. Shema also urged residents to remit their contributions in time instead of waiting to fall sick.
